About Us
Reeds: Contemporary Haiga is the online version of
the hardcopy anthology of the same name. Under the editorship of founder, Jeanne
Emrich, both versions ran concurrently from 2003 to 2007. The hardcopy Reeds
won numerous awards, including First Place in the Haiku Society of America's
Mildred Kanterman Memorial Merit Book Award for best book published in 2006. The
online version continues today.
Our mission is to publish the finest contemporary haiga being produced
in the world. Our orientation is primarily toward "haiga from the hand,"
although mixed media, photography, and computer renderings will be considered.
Submissions are by invitation only.
Jeanne Emrich was the founder and first webmaster of Haiga Online: A
Journal of Painting and Poetry, the first e-zine ever to publish haiga in
full color and which inspired many poet-painters in the Western world to try
their hand at the form. She founded Haiga Online in 1998 and the e-zine
continues to this day under the leadership of other editors, presently Linda
Papanicolaou. Emrich has given numerous haiga presentations and workshops in the
United States, Canada, and Japan.
